Preliminary Results

The project started with the successful kick-off meeting in December 2010 in Rostock. Project partners began working in all components of the project. In component 3 the passenger market potential analysis for all five project partner airports was elaborated in spring and summer 2011. For each airport a number of new routes were identified and the expected numbers of annual passengers for these routes were calculated.

Partner airports used the figures for their route development activities, especially for meetings and negotiations with airlines. Numerous meetings took place at route development conferences, tourism fairs and bilateral meetings at airline’s headquarters. An update of the passenger market potential analysis was elaborated in spring 2012. Passenger forecasts for previously identified routes were updated and additional routes were analysed.

In component 4.1 the airports developed different airline marketing measures. The pilot project for marketing of a new route was executed by Rostock Airport. At each partnership meetings project partners exchange experiences with route development and marketing activities. Further supporting project components are component 4.2, the analysis of PSO regulations and 4.3, the elaboration of a destination development concept. External service providers supported the elaboration of results in all three sub-components of component 4.

Since the beginning of the project several new air transport routes to and from the partner airports have been opened. Project partners have been working on the development of additional new routes. In order to work longer on the project’s main objectives, the secretariat of the South Baltic Cross-Border Cooperation Programme 2007-2013 agreed to an extension of the project lifetime until the end of April 2014.
